Eagle Creek Packable Backpack | Review by Andrew Holcombe

When I first looked at the Eagle Creek Packable Backpack I will fully admit that I thought it was kinda cool and cute but would be one of those things that ended up in some box in my closet never to be seen again.

On a whim I threw it into my bag when I was packing for a surf and kayak to trip to Costa Rica.  I must now admit my folly, this is a very cool bag and super useful on trips.  Particularly those where the number of bags is at a premium for air travel, yet you are going to want more options once you land.

The pack folds into a zipper pocket and is about the size of the palm of your hand when its packed away.  Once you un-stuff it you have a very nice sized small backpack.  It’s got a zip pocket on one side that is just right for things you want easy access to but don’t want to lose (keys, a bit of money, etc.…) and a water bottle sleeve on the other.  The top fully zips open so it’s easy to access the inside and there’s plenty of space for general everyday use.  I’ve had it at the beach with changes of clothes, towels, hats, and sunglasses as well as on the bus with my raincoat, water bottle, and extra layer.  It’s got comfortable straps, is very lightweight, and dries quickly if it gets wet.  I’ve even been able to do some light hiking with it and found it totally good to go!  I think this will quickly become a travel staple for me.

This bag exemplifies Eagle Creek products:  sleek look, easy to use, travel oriented, good features without being over-engineered, and a thoughtful layout.
