Calm Before the Storm ⛈️ French Broad and Nolichucky Rivers 🌊 2024

Nolichucky and French Broad River Gorges are quite literally history. These are some of the oldest rivers in the world, located in Tennessee and North Carolina. This footage was taken during the weeks and months leading up to the historical floods of 2024. Notably, the Nolichucky River drainage was reported to have received 30 inches of rainfall between September 25-27, precipitation preceding and during the remnants of Hurricane Helene. The floods were downright devastating. These rivers, their ecosystems, surrounding landscapes and beings around them are forever changed. The best thing for the entire region is for friends, families and visitors to return as soon as possible. Recovery will go on for years to come, but we are ready and hospitable now. Our rivers, trails, towns and mountains are still beautiful. Our fisheries still have fish to be caught. Hire a local guide, enjoy your adventure.

(Despite damages from Helene, Asheville NC was recently ranked 16th by the New York Times for 2025 in “52 Places to Go This Year”)
