Right now I'm working on a documentary on the Ugandan Kayak Club and the charity project that brought 14 kayaks, paddles, helmets, and gear to paddlers that truly deserve to be sponsored. For over two months we paddled with the local kayakers, capturing their story as they use kayaking to rise from poverty.

We are also working on an environmental piece featuring the deforestation of Skookumchuck in British Columbia. Too few kayakers realize the extent of the logging proposal that threatens the area surrounding one of kayakingÕs most legendary waves.

30 frames per second.

That's all movies are. By showing 30 still frames in 1 second you can trick the brain into perceiving motion. That's the beauty of film. To use a rapid succession of still images to elicit an experience. Now, if it only takes 30 frames to alter a person's perception of reality, then imagine what you can do with composition, sound, and editing?

That is the true power of film. By understanding how film effects the viewer you can use subtle tricks to change the way a person perceives the footage. Knowing the rules of filming can radically change your film's effect on its audience. Anybody can hold a camera, but only those who can control their shot to achieve a purpose, can call themselves producers.
